Glen House Resort

We stayed at Glen House for a wedding, although the grounds are beautiful the room definitely needs a facelift. The window unit AC was not on making the room extremely hot on a +30C day. As soon as we walked into our room the musty smell hit us hard. some of our clothes still smells of the musty wet smell. The green carpet needs to be replace. The tub and toilet had brown stains. And so did one of our sheets. Not to mention the creepy sound of the plumbing on the 2nd floor in the middle of the night. On Sunday morning they only offer a small breakfast buffet of scrambled eggs and pancake. We ended up going elsewhere given I can't have eggs and do not eat pancakes. The restaurant staff and bar staff did not look like they wanted to be there or be bothered. The nightly rate ($258/night + taxes) is fairly high considering this hotel is dated and smells. Felt like we were staying at a motel along a highway. Not to mention the lack of parking. The plus, the room was big, we had a patio door to help air out some of the musty smell, the view of the water was nice. The owners need to put some money into renovating / upkeeping the hotel, or lower your price.

Loved the location,very scenic…the room are clean but oh so dated… carpeting needs to be ripped out and the hallways need fresh paint to refresh the whole look…also being a golf resort with tee off at 7 am the breakfast needs an option for those customers.

As painful as it is to say, Shipman’s Dining Room is done for me; I’ll never return. For 20 years we’ve enjoyed dinners at this wonderful scenic place but the dining room decline since the pandemic has hit literal rock bottom! I went last night with a friend for prime rib, which we were so in the mood for, and what we got was a lukewarm tasteless mess. Unappealing lukewarm prime rib, baked potato so old it was inedible and a vegetable “medley” that was literally tasteless! There is no amount of scenic view/friendly service that can compensate for what the Dining Room produces for meals.

Surprisingly good but keep your expectations in check. This is an old-school Ontario family resort with a nice indoor pool, really good food, some really nice rooms and some really terrible rooms. My advice would be to book the most expensive room you can afford -- and definitely book a riverview room! The buildings that are right on the water include Maplewoods, rooms 124-232, which has an unobstructed view of the river, and Pinewoods, rooms 112-221, which overlooks the outdoor pool and the tiny "beach". The lovely indoor pool is closest to Maplewoods. Avoid Oakwoods on the hill, even though they have microwave ovens, because beds are tiny (two small double beds and lower quality furniture) with no view. There is strong Wi-Fi in the upstairs conference rooms in the main lodge but very poor Wi-Fi in some guest bedrooms. Rooms vary: some have electric fireplace, some have a bathtub, and some have a microwave, but all rooms have a small fridge, 2 upholstered armchairs, a tiny old-school coffee percolator (can make plain hot water for tea), a balcony with 2 simple outdoor chairs, 6 wood hangers with very limited storage room for suitcases, plenty of drawers for storage, plenty of outlets to charge electronics and devices, a mirror in the bedroom area, TV, adjustable heating, and wall to wall carpeting. Unfortunately many rooms have old fashioned bedspreads rather than duvets. But some rooms have duvets. It's inconsistent. None of the shower heads are fancy. It's difficult to get the shower tap position just right to get hot water but there was always hot water if you were patient and kept fiddling. Very nice dining room and pub with very good service staff and surprisingly good, fresh food. I was there for a professional conference and was pleasantly surprised that although breakfast was listed as 7:30 to 9:00 am, they put out fresh scrambled eggs in the buffet at 8:45 a.m. Lunch and dinner buffet chicken and beef and salmon were always moist and tender. Vegetables were always crisp and colorful and nothing was overcooked. This is pretty rare at a conference with lots of people. Front desk staff in person were kind, friendly and helpful. However, when I had called to ask questions a few weeks prior to visiting, I found the female front desk staff very unfriendly and unhelpful. So maybe that varies depending on the staff. There is an indoor hot tub which is abysmal, it is one of those rough plastic-y things. But the indoor pool is heated to 80 degrees, the games room is huge and well kept, and there are vending machines and ice machines. We were there in April, so it was too early in the season to rent boats or do any water sports and the outdoor pool was still closed. I'm not sure what this place would be like in summer when it is full of kids running around and screaming and splashing, but the peaceful view of St Lawrence River and the sound of the birds is restoring and healing in the offseason. This was perfect for a quiet girls' weekend where we didn't want to shop or go out; but there are lots options of things to do within a short drive. Meals were exquisite and not too large.

My boyfriend was trying to book a room at the Glen House in NH, USA and somehow it brought him to this other Glen House in Canada and he noticed right away after making the payment. He called the hotel and told the representative about the mistake he just made and they wouldn’t refund the money. The date he booked for us still a month away it’s not like he called last minute. Just wanted to bring to light that this place is run by sleaze balls.

Perfect location at 8 minutes in car from Gananoque. The hotel needs to be renovated but the site is absolutely splendid! I stay only night but I recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The kids swam in the outdoor pool during the afternoon and the indoor pool in the evening. We also had fun using the peddle boat. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the staff were so nice and helpful. The room wasn’t spectacular but it was clean and comfortable and to be honest we really only were in it to sleep. Definitely recommend the resort and would advise to get a river view room if staying here. I’m sure we’ll be back again next summer.
